David Earl Grover, 78, of Woolwich, died Sept. 26 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.
He was born in Wiscasset on Nov. 2, 1936 to Fred and Louise Grover. He was educated in Wiscasset schools and in 1959 joined the U.S. Army.
He married Eleanor Mae Creamer of Wiscasset on Jan. 5, 1963. They made their home in Woolwich, on a portion of the family farm where he had worked in his earlier years.
He was employed for a time at the Mason Station, but spent most of his life as a self-employed woodsman, farmer, and worm digger.
David was an avid cribbage player and Red Sox fan. He loved the out-of-doors, and enjoyed road trips throughout the state of Maine.
David is survived by sons, Darryl L. Grover and wife Sheryll of Woolwich, and Richard A. Grover of Woolwich; daughter, Tammy L. Doughty and husband Donald of Woolwich; grandchildren, Allen Simmons, Savannah Simmons-Grover, Joshua Doughty, Noah Doughty, and Benjamin Doughty; great-grandson, Hunter Simmons; and sister, Peggy Delano.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 10 at the First Congregational Church, High Street, Wiscasset, with a gathering to follow in Fellowship Hall. A graveside service for the family will be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
