Deborah Hodgdon Giles, 70, of East Boothbay, passed away Oct. 23 at her residence after a brief illness.
Deborah was born in Boston, Mass. on Oct. 30, 1940, the daughter of Freeman and Hazel Hayden Hodgdon. She was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School, and was valedictorian of her class. She went on to attend Boston University, attending briefly before leaving to marry and start her family life here in the Boothbay area.
Raising a young son, they moved back to Boston, where she worked as a waitress for a few years, before returning to this area, continuing to waitress for several area restaurants. Most recently, she has worked for Palabra Gift Shop as a clerk, a job she loved and wanted to return to, even while in the hospital fighting her illness.
A quiet person who had a dry sense of humor, she put raising her family and family time first in all that she did. She did enjoy her cats and dogs, watching Judge Judy on TV, and going to yard sales, where she was known for her eye for finding antiques.
Survivors include son, Michael Giles and companion Tammy Morton of East Boothbay; sisters, Lee Abbott of Boothbay Harbor, and Gail Farrin of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life 11 a.m., Tues., Nov. 1 at the Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.
