Dennis Roland Wentworth, 91, of Sweetwater, Tenn., passed away Dec. 15 at Woods Presbyterian Home in Sweetwater, Tenn.
A native of Searsmont, he was the only child of the late Fred Almon and Allena Hannah (George) Wentworth.
On Aug. 8, 1945, Dennis married the girl of his dreams, his wife of 59 years, Lou Ellen Bivens. After he completed his military service, they lived temporarily in Maine, and later bought a home in Sweetwater, Tenn.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dennis served in WWII from July 1942 through January 1946. He later re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953.
He attended North Sweetwater Baptist Church and was a sabbath-believing Christian.
Uncle Dennis really enjoyed riding his many motorcycles, some of which were operated with sidecars attached; others were used in his military service as a motorcycle courier.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lou, on Feb. 15, 2005; and all his half brothers and sisters.
Survivors from Lincoln County include the children of Mabel Wentworth, Ava Jackson and Marion Jones; and Myrtle Wentworth’s daughter, June Proffit.
Also surviving in Maine are nephews and nieces, Edna Vaughan, Evelyn Waterman, Christina Maroon, Esther Stevens, Bernice Robinson, Trudy Dickey, Richard Wentworth, Joe Wentworth, the children of Abbie May Richards, and the children of Bertha Wentworth.
Survivors in Tennessee include sister-in-law, Ruth Faye Warner; brother-in-law, Otis Bivens; and niece, Joyce Davis. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Polly Gilbert of Maryland, nephew, Dick Buzzell of Canada; and many other great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Dec. 16 at Ziegler Funeral Home in Athens, Tenn., with the Rev. Fred Wilson officiating. Burial was Dec. 17 at the Antioch Cemetery in Tellico Plains, Tenn.
