Donald Louis “Gizmo” Bredeau, 43, of Waldoboro, passed away Sept. 8 at Miles Memorial Hospital.
Donald was born in Damariscotta on March 18, 1963, a son of Louis and Doris Sanborn Bredeau.
A lifelong resident of Waldoboro, Donald attended Waldoboro schools and began his career as a fisherman there. He began working with his brother-in-law, Neil Harvey, lobstering.
He went on to work in New Bedford, Mass., scalloping, and was the Captain of Miss Marnia, a scallop vessel and tuna boat, in Montauk, N.Y. He was the “#1 harpooner in Maine”, said Craig Prior.
In 1987, he married Marylin Benner and they made their home in Waldoboro.
He loved fishing, spending time with his children, playing with his grandchildren, and hunting. He enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to country music. He loved his family, his dog, “Buddy”, and all of his fishing buddies.
He was always willing to help anyone who needed assistance. He helped his son-in-law, Travis Carter, build a lobster boat, The Canadian Mist, and also helped build other boats at the Carter’s Boat Shop in Waldoboro.
Donald will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his father, Louis Bredeau.
Survivors include his loving wife of 19 years, Marylin Benner Bredeau of Waldoboro; daughters, Lisa Chickering of Waldoboro, and Falisha Carter of Waldoboro; son, Daniel Chickering of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Courtney and Robbie Flint, Tyler Sawyer, Ashley, Timothy, and Cole Chickering, and Savanah Carter, all of Waldoboro; mother, Doris Bredeau of Waldoboro; sisters, Barbara Harvey of Waldoboro, and Lois Grover of Searsmont; brother, Lawrence Bredeau of Searsmont; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation 6-8 p.m., Mon., Sept. 11 at Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Celebration of Donald’s life 1 p.m., Tues., Sept. 12 at Hall Funeral Home, with Pastor Ray Hedgpeth officiating. Burial will follow in Shuman Cemetery, Waldoboro.
Gathering after the burial at the American Legion Hall, Jefferson St.,Waldoboro.
