Dora Violet Ring, 76, passed away May 1 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Dora was born Aug. 22, 1929, in South Thomaston, a daughter of Frederick and Florence Radcliff Monroe.
Dora was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1947. She met Harold Williams, whom she later married, and for a short time they worked in Brattleboro, Vt. before returning to Union, where they lived until 1958. In 1983 they moved to Thomaston, where Harold passed away.
Dora was the town clerk of Thomaston for five years.
In 1988, Dora met and married Waldo Ring. They loved to travel and toured the lower 48 as well as traveling in Canada. They owned a 1957 Chevy, 1931 Model A Ford, and a 1940 Dodge pickup in which they traveled to the auto clubs. She belonged to the M.O.A.L (Maine Obsolete Auto League), Antique Trucker’s of Maine and Coastal Antique Auto Club.
Dora loved her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed working with her hands in the dirt; she would do any work to be outdoors. In past years she enjoyed tying flies so that she could go fishing.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Richard and John Monroe and her first husband, Harold Williams.
Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Waldo Ring of Thomaston; sons, Melvin Williams of Waldoboro, and Douglas Williams, I of Washington; grandchildren, Rachel Robbins of South Thomaston, and Douglas Williams, II of St. George; great grandchildren, Brittany Mahonen of South Thomaston, Larry Robbins of South Thomaston, and Adrian Williams of St. George; sisters, Norma Staples of Thomaston, and Mabel Batty of South Thomaston; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life 2 p.m., Fri., May 5 at Hall & Bibber Funeral Home, 78 Main St., Thomaston.
Burial will follow at the Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
