Dorothy A. Babcock, 86, of Boothbay, died Sept. 1 at her home with her family by her side. She was born Sept. 24, 1928 in West Acton, Mass., to Havelock and Florence Locke Schnair. Dottie grew up in West Acton, and graduated from West Acton High School in the class of 1946.
Dorothy married Chester A. Babcock on April 8, 1950 and they lived and raised their three children in Wayland, Mass. Dottie worked for over 20 years for the town of Wayland. Since the early 1960s, she always enjoyed spending time at her summer residence on Little River in East Boothbay.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting and spending time with friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Chester A. Babcock; and aunt, Dorothy Barlow. She was loved by all who met her and she will be missed by her many friends and extended family.
She is survived by sons, Steve Babcock and wife Pat of Wayland, Mass., and Ron Babcock and wife Kari of Boothbay; daughter, Linda Groton of Boothbay; grandchildren, Stephen Babcock of Charlestown, Mass., Andrea Sander of Chandler, Ariz., Jennifer Barter of Barters Island, Michael Groton of Wiscasset, Marc Babcock of Oregon, Ryan Babcock of New Orleans, Amanda Babcock of Stoddard, N.H., Carter Babcock of Boothbay, and Colby Babcock of Boothbay; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 1-2 p.m., Tues., Sept. 8 followed by a service to celebrate Dottie’s life at 2 p.m. at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Rev. Dr. Sarah Foulger will officiate. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
