Dorothy Sidelinger, 87, passed away Nov. 18 at Chase Point, Damariscotta. She was born in Boston, Mass. on Aug. 11, 1927 to Edward and Mary (Harrington) Kavanagh. She was a graduate of Dorchester High and Burdette College in Boston.
She moved to Damariscotta upon her marriage to her late husband, Frank, in April of 1951. Dorothy had been employed by various government agencies beginning at the Watertown Arsenal, then the Boston Army Base and, upon her move to Maine, the Brunswick Naval Air Station from which she resigned to raise her family and last the office of Supervisor of Shipbuilders at BIW from which she retired.
While a stay-at-home mom, she was active in the PTA, Cub Scouts and was a Girl Scout troop leader. She volunteered at Ecumenical Community Suppers and at Miles Memorial Hospital. She was a communicant of Saint Patrick’s Church.
Though her great-grandchildren are young, she took delight in their many accomplishments, be it playing sports, learning a new language or getting a new tooth.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1996; and brother, Robert Kavanagh.
She is survived by children, Larry, Frank, and Nancy Callahan, all of Damariscotta, Paul and wife Debra Lee of Newcastle, and Fred and wife Mary of Newcastle; sister, Janet Morrow of Barstow, Cal.; grandchildren, Bryan Sidelinger of Bar Harbor, Rachel Coors and husband Dr. Colin Coors of Union, Amy Moncrief and husband William of Charlotte, N.C., Jessica Hopkins and husband Joey of Union, Kaitlin Callahan of Waldoboro, Jocelyn Callahan of Camden, Sloan Sidelinger of Newcastle, Julia Sidelinger of Waterville, and Destini Sidelinger and Nathaniel Sidelinger, both of Bristol; and 11 great-grandchildren; and her very dear Maine Coon cat, “Fergus.”
A mass will be held at 11 a.m., Mon., Dec. 15 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.
