Dr. Harold A. Pinkham Jr., 85, of Beverly, Mass., beloved husband of Christine (Lewgowd) Pinkham, died July 1 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Mass.
Born in Sidney, he was the son of the late Harold A. Sr. and Dorothy (Ames) Pinkham and was raised and educated in Augusta. He earned two Master’s degrees from the University of Connecticut and his PhD from the University of New Hampshire.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Pinkham had been employed for many years as a history professor until the time of his retirement as Professor Emeritus at Salem State University.
A longtime resident of the city of Beverly, he was a member and past president of the Beverly Historical Society and member of the Colonial Society.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, he is survived by daughters, Barbara J. Kumin and husband Steven of Eliot, and Katherine E. Pinkham of Boothbay Harbor, son, Harold C. Pinkham and wife Michelle of Franklin, Mass.; grandchildren, Dr. Michael C. Kumin and wife Jenn, Stefanie M. Kumin, Sarah E. Kumin, Bethany M. Flaherty, Nathaniel L. Pinkham, and Shannon E. Pinkham; five great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia McGuire of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Sat., July 5 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly, Mass. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, Mass., prior to the mass on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
