Dwight W. Cook, 64, of Dresden, died unexpectedly Dec. 18 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.
He was born June 26, 1943, in Richmond, the son of Leon and Dorothy (Smith) Cook. Dwight worked for Bath Iron Works for over 30 years as a crane operator, lead man for rigging, and material clerk.
He was a past member of the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department from 1974-1990 and former first and third selectman of Dresden.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Dorothy Cook; sister, Sharon Cook; brother, Clifton Cook; sister-in-law, Muriel Cook; and brother-in-law, Durwood Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Estelle Cook of Dresden; daughters, Carla Suire and husband Steve of Limestone, Crystal Leeman and husband Kerry of Wiscasset, Monica Marcum and husband Henry of Oregon, and Roberta Green and husband David of North Whitefield; sons, Wayne Cook and wife Debie of New Jersey and Ryan Cook and wife Sharon of New York; stepson, Frank Anderson of Ellsworth; stepdaughter, Shanna McNeil and husband Eric of Georgia; father-in-law, Charles Rittall of Dresden; mother-in-law, Mildred Rittall; brother-in-law, Charles Rittall, Jr. of Farmingdale; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Martin of Richmond and Stephanie Haskel of Dresden; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery, Dresden.
