Edgar Walter Thompson, 85, passed away April 23 at Togus Springs in Augusta with his children at his side.
Edgar served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Conflict. He was a longtime member of the Masons and American Legion. After his stint in the Navy he was employed by several local garages, including Lincoln Tire and Chet’s Sunoco, before opening his own business Ed’s Gulf Station in Damariscotta. Ed and his wife Paulette ran the Gulf station for 15 years.
Edgar is also a descendant of the Thompson Ice House in South Bristol.
Upon his retirement from Ed’s Gulf Station, Ed and Paulette moved to Arizona for several years, then to Florida for a brief time, finally returning to his roots in Maine.
Edgar was predeceased by his parents, Herbert M. Thompson and Esther Thompson; stepmother, Gwendolyn Thompson; uncle, Chester Gilbert; brothers-in-law, Walton Dodge and Francis Gaudette; grandsons, Herbert W. Thompson, Ryan Edgar, and Jerome Hilton; nephew, Wayne T. Dodge; and niece, Elaine Wyman.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette Thompson of Augusta; first wife, Carolyn Thompson of Jefferson; children, Edgar H. Thompson and wife Joyce of Pemaquid, Deborah Campbell and companion Larry Toothaker of Woolwich, Perry Thompson and wife Sharon of New Harbor, Larry Thompson of Damariscotta, Laurie Hilton and companion Edward Kirkland of Damariscotta, and Gary Thompson and wife Sue of Woolwich. He is also survived by sisters, Cynthia Dodge and Ramona Gaudette of Southport and their families; aunt, Arrolyn Gilbert of New Harbor; cousin and dear friend, Lucille Putnam; and his loyal four-legged companion, Sadie.
