Elizabeth “Babs” Walden Palmer, 93, a resident of Thompson House and Waldoboro, passed away on Dec. 17 after a long battle with COPD and dementia.
Born on March 12, 1919 in Greenville, she was a graduate of Colby College. She married Paul K. Palmer of Nobleboro on Dec. 6, 1941 and was a mother of five children.
Babs was a homemaker, Red Cross Volunteer, political activist, master seamstress, fabulous cook, master gardener and driving force behind her local community center. She was a friend and confidant to many people.
She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, and three of her four siblings.
Babs is survived by her youngest brother, Edwin Walden; children, Ken Palmer and wife Veronica of Sarasota, Fla., Carolyn Palmer and husband Carl Boyd of Wilmington, Vt., John Palmer and wife Dorinda of Fresno, Cal., Jean Day and husband Ken of Reisterstown, Md., and Henry Palmer and wife Jan of Chichester, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Also an animal lover, in accordance with her wishes, there will not be a funeral but any donations in her name may be made to your local animal shelter or to the Dutch Neck Community Club in Waldoboro. She will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in the spring in Waldoboro.
