Ellis Adelbert Wallace Sr., 85, passed away March 31 at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro.
Ellis was born April 18, 1921 in Bath, the son of Merton and Evelyn Coffin Wallace. He grew up in Phippsburg, where he attended local schools.
He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 10, 1942, and was stationed in Northern France; he landed in Normandy after the invasion. On Dec. 3, 1945, he was honorably discharged and returned home to Phippsburg.
Ellis enjoyed making a living on his own boat, lobstering and fishing, until he retired at the age of 60. He loved hunting, fishing, and reading National Geographic and other books.
Survivors include his son, Peter Wallace and wife Gloria of Phippsburg; brother, Merrill Wallace of Phippsburg; grandson, Corey Wallace of Phippsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at a later date.
