
Emily W. Johnson, 93, of Damariscotta, passed away after a period of declining health on the afternoon of Oct. 8 at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. Born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Waco, Tex., she was the daughter of Robert and Mildred Wilford.
Emily grew up and attended schools in Kentucky, graduating from Mayfield High School. She attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. for two years, then graduated from Vanderbilt University, where she met Arthur Johnson. The couple married on Dec. 28, 1946 in Mayfield, Ky. and raised two children together.
She and Arthur lived for many years in Castine, and enjoyed a cottage in Southport until Arthur’s passing in 2004, when she moved to Damariscotta.
Besides her parents, Emily was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Johnson; and daughter, Nancy Johnson, who passed away in 1980.
She is survived by son, Robert Johnson; brother, Robert Wilford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A service to remember Emily will be held at 6 p.m., Tues., Oct. 17 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with the Rev. Richard Newell officiating. She will be laid to rest next to Arthur and Nancy privately in Castine.
