Erlyn “Buddy” Lane, 71, of New Harbor, passed away with his loving wife by his side, on the morning of Jan. 25 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. The son of Charles and Adelaide Lane, he was born on Nov. 7, 1942 at their home in New Harbor.
Buddy went to grammar school at Mavooshan and Bristol Consolidated School, and graduated from Bristol High School in 1961. After graduation, he worked as a carpenter and fisherman before he started his career at the University of Maine Darling Center. He worked there for 35 years before retiring on June 1, 2009.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with family and friends, and traveling to NASCAR races with his family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Alec; sister, Donna; and brothers, Raymond and Lee.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lois Lane; son, Chris Lane; brother, Dennis Lane; nieces, Dawn Michelle Stryffeler, Debbie Crum, and Bronwen Lane; and nephews, Darryl Walizer, Darrin Walizer and Caleb Lane.
A time to visit with the family will be held from 4-6 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 30 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. He will be laid to rest privately in the New Harbor Cemetery in the spring.
