Evelyn F. Scott, 83, died at Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, on April 17 of respiratory failure owing to pneumonia. She had been hospitalized for several months with complications resulting from a spinal injury and congestive heart failure.
Born Evelyn Freeman in Riverdale, N.Y. on March 11, 1925, she was the third daughter and fourth surviving child of Edward W. and Dorothy (Perkins) Freeman, and was named after her maternal grandmother, Evelina (Ball) Perkins, widow of the J. P. Morgan partner George W. Perkins.
Known to friends and family as Eve, she attended Riverdale Country School, the Madeira School, class of 1943, and Sarah Lawrence College, class of 1947. After her marriage in 1949 to Lt. Cmdr. Omar C. Fitch, a son of U.S. Navy Adm. Aubrey W. Fitch, she resided chiefly in Montreal, where her husband was employed with the Aluminium Company of Canada, Ltd. The couple had two sons prior to their divorce. Her remarriage to Dr. W. C. M. Scott, a Montreal psychoanalyist, in 1970 ended with Dr. Scott s death in 1997.
She is survived by sons, Patrick D. Fitch and daughter-in-law Marie of Lake Mary, Fla., and Christopher F. Fitch of Flushing, N.Y.; grandson, Patrick A. Fitch of Washington, DC; Dr. Scott s two sons, Robert Scott and his wife Diane Spencer of Weston, Mass. and Richard Scott of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and brothers, John W. Freeman of Riverdale, N.Y., and George E. Freeman of Boothbay Harbor.
Interment will be in Damariscotta. Funeral arrangements will be private and are entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
