Everett T. Heidgerd, 87, of Kennebunk, formerly of Damariscotta, Old Lyme, Conn. and Monsey, N.Y., died April 3 at his home.
Everett was born in Monsey, N.Y. on June 27, 1920 to Herman and Sybil (King) Heidgerd.
Mr. Heidgerd graduated from Suffern High School in Suffern, N.Y. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Math and Engineering at Middlebury College. Mr. Heidgerd served his country in the US Navy during WWII aboard the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard.
After the war, Everett received his Masters of Education Degree and his Doctorate of Educational Counseling at Columbia University. He was employed for 35 years by the New York State School System and also worked as a clinical therapist at the Rockland County Mental Health Center. He worked with the State of Connecticut Gifted and Talented Students Program in Westbrook, Conn. for 10 years before retiring to Damariscotta in 1984.
He greatly enjoyed design/restoration and renovation of antiques and was considered by many as a first class craftsman. He was an avid sailor and boater as well. In his youth Mr. Heidgerd studied trumpet and also played the French horn in the Vermont Symphony and in the Rockland County Suburban Symphony. He forever loved the State of Maine and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Audrey Connor.
Mr. Heidgerd is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris (Forsberg) Heidgerd of Kennebunk; his son, Thomas Heidgerd and wife Barbara of Rowley, Mass.; his daughters, Christine Pucillo and husband Tony of Hull, Mass. and Jane Garrick and husband, Larry of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; his brother, Lloyd Heidgerd of Concord, N.H.; and five grandchildren, Anthony, Gregory, Sarah, Ashlee and Zachary.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
