F. Marion Steele, 82, passed away unexpectedly at Pen Bay Medical Center on Sept. 19.
Mrs. Steele was born in Gloucester, Mass., the daughter of Frank and Fannie Olson Harvey.
She married Conrad “Pete” Steele of Gloucester, Mass. in 1943. The Steeles moved to a farm on the Calderwood Road in Washington on Dec. 28, 1948, with their three young daughters. They lived and worked on the farm, raising broilers for the former Maplewood Poultry Company until the demise of the industry in this area.
Mrs. Steele worked for the former Sea-Me Transportation as a dispatcher and as an outreach worker for the elderly of the Knox County Community Action.
She maintained her large lawn with landscaping, as well as extensive flower gardens. She was a board member and volunteer of the Gibbs Library since its inception. She was the oldest member of a women’s swimming group in Rockport that met two times a week, which kept her active.
Mrs. Steele is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Sharon Reed and husband John, Jr. of Gray, Pamela Meservey and husband Douglas of Waldoboro, and Kathleen Daniel and husband Wesley of Washington; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and a niece and nephew.
Celebration of Mrs. Steele’s life 1 p.m., Sat., Sept. 23 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
