Florida Mae Fitch, 89, of Pemaquid, passed away on the evening of July 31, at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home, Damariscotta, surrounded by four grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. The daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Sykes) Richardson, she was born at home, in Pemaquid, Sept. 23, 1918.
Following her early education, she worked at several jobs including at area post offices, serving as a clerk, tailoring, cooking, wallpapering and for many years selling hand made quilts and antiques in her shop. Florida loved to travel and enjoyed many areas of the country with her daughter and son-in-law. She also loved sewing, knitting and was a passionate collector of Depression glass.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Paul Fitch; daughter, Constance Mae (Fitch) Corson (in 2006); brother Ervin, and sisters Madelyn and Evelyn.
Florida leaves her sister Celia Guptill; son-in-law, Leol L. Corson both of Pemaquid; five grandsons, Leonard Paul Corson and wife Elaine of Orem, Ut., Jayson Leol Corson and wife Kerstin of Howland, Joseph Fitch Corson and wife Elizabeth, Matthew Lee Corson and wife Michele, and John Aaron Corson all of Pemaquid; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
Florida will be laid to rest, with a graveside service, 11 a.m., Wed., Aug. 6, at the West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, chapter of one’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
