Frank X. Simonds, of Pemaquid, passed away quietly early on Father’s Day, June 15. He was dearly loved by his wife, four children, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and Susie, his German Shepherd.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1921 and later moved to Manhasset, Long Island, where he graduated from high school. When WWII began he attended Kings Point. He went to sea during the war and after until 1951.
After his marriage to Jane W. Deifendorf in 1952 he became an advertising salesman and recreated on weekends fishing off Montauk Point on his boat the Cod Nok.
In 1967 Frank was transferred to Santa Barbara, Cal. with his family, where they lived for seven years. Frank then fished on his double-ended dory called the Montauk.
They returned to the east coast and moved to Maine in 1975. He continued his career in advertising and became a lobsterman and a member of the South Bristol Co-op. He fished into his 80s.
Frank was a charismatic and compassionate man; quick to tell a story and engage you with his charm.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane; sons, Frank and wife Bernadette Simonds, and Tim and wife Kerry Simonds; daughters, Anne and husband John Campbell, and Barbara and husband Jay Tracey; grandsons, Ryan and wife Mindy Simonds, Brandon and wife Halie Simonds, Frank Simonds, and Will Tracey; granddaughters, Meaghan Campbell and husband Scott Degel, TaraJane Campbell and husband Joe Miranda, and Maya and Anna Tracey; and great-grandchildren, Addison, Kate, Makena, and Xavier Simonds, and Austin Degel.
