Geoffrey J. Herrmann, 76, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully on June 9 at his home.
He was born in Berlin, Germany, on May 21, 1938. He was the son of the late Eric and Ruth (Fest) Herrmann. He first arrived in the U.S. as a displaced person when he was 11 years old. He attended and graduated from Weehawken High School in New Jersey.
After graduating from high school, Jeff joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years. Upon returning home from service he married and started a family. He also began his career with Western Electric. His career spanned over 25 years and many changes in ownership from Western Bell, to Ma Bell, AT&T, and Verizon from which he finally retired in 1988.
In his retirement, Jeff cared for his mother and tried to make sure his immediate and extended family members were well cared for. He dabbled in real estate investments in Maine and Massachusetts on and off for many years. He loved to tinker and enjoyed reading “Car and Driver” and “Popular Mechanics,” always looking to try to find the best of everything. He was very mechanical and enjoyed teaching his children how to care for their cars and their appliances. He enjoyed fishing for flounder and fluke on the Jersey Shore and Block Island.
He was loving, kind, generous and a loyal friend.
He is survived by his companion, Jodi Antinelli of Boothbay; children, Julia Cates and husband Tom of Acton, Mass., Andrew Herrmann of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Tanja Fagan and husband Kevin of Richland, Mich.; grandchildren, Alex, Serena, Connor, Liam, and Miles; brother, Arvid Herrmann and wife Connie; sister, Isa Irvin; and nieces and nephews, Benjamin Irvin, Erik Herrmann, Anjanette Burns.
