Gertrude Pratt, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully at her home July 4. She was born on Jan. 27, 1922 in Waldoboro to the late Cecil and Flora Orff Newbert.
Mrs. Pratt attended and graduated from the Waldoboro High School. She also attended the Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Mass. She completed her Teaching Certificate at home. Mrs. Pratt took in foster children for many years prior to becoming a 1st grade school teacher at Friendship Street School. She loved to play the piano, and violin and sing. She also had a love for gardening, canning, and cooking at home. Mrs. Pratt volunteered for many years at The Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Waldoboro. She received a Presidential Certificate for her devotion to volunteer work.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church in North Waldoboro, where she served as treasurer, was a former adult Sunday school teacher and past missionary president.
Mrs. Pratt was predeceased in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Emery Pratt; sister, Bernice Newhall; brothers, Merton, Leonard, and Bernard Newbert; granddaughter, Joanna Burke; niece, Lucille Lash; step-daughter, Ann Latford; and step-grandson, Emery Richardson.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Ann Burke of Mansfield, Mass., and Sandra Underhill of New Market, Tenn.; foster sisters, Lucille Raven and Dot Christ; grandson, Mark Weston Burke of Providence, R.I.; step daughters, Alice Deery, Gloria Richardson, and Annie Swazey, all of Danielson, Conn.; step-grandsons, Danny and David Richardson, and Joey Deery, all of Putnam, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m., Mon., July 7. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tues., July 8 at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, with the Rev. Robert Bellows, Pastor of Orff’s Corner Community Church, officiating.
