Grethel Marie Beaucage, 70, passed away on Feb. 17 from a lifelong battle of Crohn’s disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Grethel was born on Dec. 31, 1946 in Medford, Mass. to Richard Learson and Barbara (Pitcher) Learson of Medford, Mass.
Grethel would travel to Maine to spend summers visiting her Aunt Grethel (her namesake) with whom she was very close. She would meet her former husband David J. Beaucage Sr. while visiting Maine. They lived in Massachusetts awhile and eventually moved to Maine with their young family.
She was given the name “Snooky” in high school where she excelled. Snooky loved to socialize, be it at poker games, bowling at DePatsy’s, playing beano, visiting with neighbors, or yacking on the phone. She was fond of her cats, namely, Patches, Skittles, Sammy and Scamp.
She was so proud of her volunteer awards. She always gave of herself, always putting others before herself. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and hearing all that they were up to. She was a very proud “Grammie.”
Snooky had a special bond with her son, David Jr. He lived with her his whole life, they did everything together. Snooky touched many lives and will be missed.
She was predeceased by her parents; and mother’s twin sister, Grethel (Pitcher) Sukeforth.
She is survived by sons, Richard Beaucage and wife Lari-ann, and David Beaucage Jr., all of Waldoboro; daughter, Lisa Powell and husband Toby of Friendship; grandchildren, Devin and Trevor Davis of Waldoboro, Joseph, Jordan and Brooke Powell of Friendship, Kayla Beaucage of Idaho, and Andrew Beaucage of Waldoboro; great-granddaughters, Caylie Davis of Union, and Isla and Arianna of Waldoboro; and Barbara (Learson) MacIntire of Andover, Mass., whom she called “sister”.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring.
