Harry C. Black Jr., 83, of Woolwich, died March 27 at his residence.
He was born in Presque Isle on March 12, 1931, a son of Harry C. and Hazel (Ellis) Black Sr.
On July 4, 1953 he married Dianne Furgerson and was employed at Boothbay Cannery. He was employed for Bath Iron Works and Blue Rock Industries in Leeds. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He drove a truck for eight years before returning to Blue Rock and was then employed by Steven Shepherd delivering mail to area post offices in Hallowell for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors and his best saying was (whatever).
He was a member of the Vienna Grange.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dianne Black on June 14, 2007 and infant daughter, Susan Black.
He is survived by sons, Earle Black and wife Diane of Brunswick, and Michael Black and wife Betty of Skowhegan; daughter, Lisa Willoughby and Clifford Hooper of Woolwich; sisters, Linda Sabacky of Minnesota, and Ellen Nason of Boothbay; stepbrothers, Kenneth Black of Bath, and Robert Black of New Hampshire; stepsister, Sandy Schipper of Stratton; grandchildren, Ian Strickland, Kyle Strickland, Brian Black, Jennifer Black, and Shane Black; four great-grandchildren with another on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., April 5 at the Georgetown Community Center, 19 Old Schoolhouse Rd., Georgetown. A memorial service will be held at the Vienna Methodist Church at a later date. Burial will be at Peru Cemetery in Peru this spring.
