Harry Frederick “Skip” Sweitzer Jr., 90, of Wayland, Mass. and Christmas Cove, died peacefully on Aug. 3.
He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. to the late Harry Frederick Sweitzer and Ruth Elizabeth (Waterman) Sweitzer.
Skip was a resident of Wayland for over 56 years. He received his BS from the U.S. Naval Academy and served his country with honor retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He spent the rest of his career as a Quality Assurance Engineer with the Raytheon Corporation. Next to spending time with his family, Skip had a passion for the coast of Maine, especially for sailing and fly-fishing. His other great joy was music, which he enjoyed as a patron of the Boston Symphony, casually in the company of his many musical friends, as a member of the First Parish choir and during his long tenure as a member of the Sangerfest Men’s Chorus.
Skip was the beloved and loving husband for 64 years of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Sweitzer, who died on April 2, 2015.
He was the beloved father of son H. Frederick Sweitzer III and wife Martha Sandefer of West Suffield, Conn., and of daughter Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Sweitzer and spouse Britt Howe of Maynard, Mass.; as well as the loving grandfather of T. Frederick “Freddie” Sweitzer-Howe; brother of Thomas Sweitzer of Sedona, Ariz.; and the late Richard Sweitzer of Madison, Conn.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 30 at the First Parish Unitarian Church, 50 Cochituate Rd., Wayland Center, Mass., where Skip was a long time and devoted member.
Interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family at the Sweitzer-Thomas family lot in the Harrington Meeting House Cemetery in Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice House, 10 Green Way, Wayland, MA 01778. Skip spent his final days in this deeply caring and healing place.
