Helen M. Vincent, 89, of Damariscotta, died May 18 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Facility. The daughter and youngest child of Lillian Lenz and Harry Wandele, she was born Nov. 18, 1916 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended elementary school in New York. Her family moved to Cedar Grove, N.J., and she graduated from Bloomfield Senior High School in Bloomfield, N.J.
She worked for Western Union Company in offices in Bloomfield and Newark, N.J. During that time, she traveled extensively in the American Southwest and aboard cargo freighters in the banana trade serving Central America and the Caribbean. She was an accomplished classical pianist.
She married George O. Vincent of Salisbury, Md., in May 1938, and lived in Westfield, N.J., later residing in Bloomfield for many years. She moved to Maine in 1998, residing initially in Brunswick. She was in the loving care of Cove’s Edge Nursing facility for the last several years.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, brother Frank Emmet Wandele (Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps), and sister Lillian Greaves.
She is survived by her son, G. Alan Vincent and wife Nancy of Galveston, Tex.; daughter, Linda (Lin) Vincent and husband Robert Fraser of Walpole; and grandson, Michael A. Vincent of Addison, Tex.
Arrangements handled by Direct Cremation Service of Maine. Interment will be in the Wandele family plot at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, N.J.
