Hope Sandblom, 85, of Friendship, passed away peacefully at her home on May 5, surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 30, 1922 in Weymouth, Mass., a daughter of Bernard and Abbie Ludy. Hope grew up and attended schools in Braintree, Mass. and was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. Hope met airman William A. Sandblom, of Milton, Mass. during WWII, and they were married on Feb. 25, 1945. Bill and Hope were stationed in Washington, D.C., Tennessee, Texas and Hawaii during a ten year military career following the war, and came to Friendship in 1955 to raise their growing family. Hope was always busy, raising nine children, and in later years caring for both her own mother and an elderly aunt. She also loved to spend time with her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and to keep up with their activities and accomplishments. Hope was an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Hope was predeceased by her husband, their oldest son William A. Jr., and their youngest daughter Lynn.
She is survived by a sister, Florence Jones of Rhode Island; daughters, Pamela Lutte and husband Ken of New Harbor, Hope Hilton and husband Mike of Nobleboro, and Meredith Anderson of Friendship; sons, Richard and wife Joy of Friendship, John and wife Alison of Stow, Mass., and Timothy and David of Friendship.
Graveside service 10 a.m., Sat., May 17 at the Harbor Cemetery in Friendship.
