Howard Hutchins Darling, a longtime summer resident on Muscongus Bay in Round Pond, died on Oct. 22.
He was born in Sheboygan, Wis. on May 21, 1918, to Olive and Earl Darling, the eldest of three sons.
He graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. with a B.A. in economics, cum laude, and a minor in music, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
He served in the U.S. Army for five years during WWII, honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
After the war he married Helen Louise Kruse from Groton, Mass.
The International Silver Company in Meriden, Conn employed him for 12 years. He was elected treasurer/business manager of the New York Annual Conference for the United Methodist Church.
Through the years, he maintained his interest in music. For many summers he was the substitute organist and choir director at the New Harbor United Methodist Church, and occasionally at the Round Pond United Methodist Church. He served as treasurer of the Westchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen, who still resides in their home in White Plains, N.Y.; and their daughter, Elaine and son-in-law, Vincent who live in Yonkers, N.Y.
