James Aloysius Mahan III, 65, of Waldoboro, died suddenly Oct. 9 at Miles Hospital in Damariscotta.
Mr. Mahan was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Brockton, Mass., the son of James Aloysius Mahan II and Beatrice Morency Mahan. He attended Brockton, Mass. schools.
He was employed in the shoe industry as a women’s shoe designer for over 20 years, before moving to Maine in 1990 and opening the Mahan Real Estate business with his wife in Waldoboro.
Mr. Mahan was a member of the Waldoboro Historical Society, Medomak Valley Land Trust, Real Estate Brokerage Council, Penobscot Bay and Lincoln County Board of Realtors, Maine and National Board of Realtors, and the Two/Ten National Foundation.
He enjoyed sports, especially cheering for the Red Sox, gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gail Bonamici Mahan, of Waldoboro; son, James Aloysius Mahan IV and wife Mary of St. Charles, Ill.; grandchildren, Stephanie and James A. Mahan V both of St. Charles, Ill.; mother-in-law, Winifred Bonamici of Halifax, Mass.; sister-in-law, Lois Alfonso and husband Richard of Southeastern, Mass. and New Harbor; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 12 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m., with Rev. Frederick Irving.
