James “Jimmy” Fossett, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center on the evening of Nov. 5 after a brief illness, with his family by his side. He was born on Nov. 1, 1948 in Damariscotta.
A lifelong resident of Bristol, it was often said that one day Jimmy woke up, got out of bed, rolled down the hill, and built a house. It was in this house that he raised his family and became lovingly known as “Papa.”
A lifetime of fishing, and the School of Hard Knocks, made Jimmy tough as nails, but with a heart of gold and a smile that would light up a room.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Denise; brother, Bobby; and parents, Bob and Gwen.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Meredith; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Courtney; daughter, Brandi; and grandchildren, Theo, Pheobe, Ophelia, and Oscar.
A memorial service, and celebration of his life, will be held at the New Harbor United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m., Fri., Nov. 13. He will be laid to rest privately in the Harrington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Bristol Consolidated School Booster Club, 2153 Bristol Rd., Pemaquid, ME 04558, for a new scoreboard.
