James Louis “Jim” Scully, 87, of Winchester, Va., formerly of Newcastle, died May 21 in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Scully was born in 1920, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of the late Francis Louis Scully and Helen Hooker. He was a plant Superintendent at Harris Intertype in Winchester, Va. and was a Safety Engineer with the Federal Government (OSHA) retiring after 10 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, Va. and St. Patrick s Catholic Church in Newcastle. Mr. Scully was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the United States L.S.T. Association. He was a graduate of Adelphi University, Garden City, N.Y. and a WWII Veteran, having served in the US Navy, achieving the rank of M.M. First Class serving in the Pacific Campaign.
He married Dorothy Agnes Handon, on Feb. 27, 1943, in Astoria, N.Y. at the Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Kathleen Hyde of Bowie, Md., Jamie-Ellen Davis of Onemo, Va., and Meggin Tierney of Kenner, La.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his brother, Thomas Hooker of Flanders, N.Y.
Funeral service 10 a.m., Wed., May 28 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tues., May 27 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Va., with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m.
