Janet Frances Ormsby, 82, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12 at Quarry Hill in Camden surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Winn on July 2, 1929, the youngest of 17 children of the late James and Clara Albert McGinley. She grew up in the area and attended local schools graduating from Mattawamkeag High School. After high school she attended beauty school in Bangor.
She married her husband Harold C. Ormsby Jr. in May of 1951. The couple made their home in Reading, Mass. before retiring to Waldoboro in 1986.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, putting together puzzles, gardening, and traveling. She was very active within the community volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the Well-Baby Clinic. She was also very involved with the Waldoboro United Methodist Women’s group.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold C. Ormsby Jr.
Survivors include daughter, Susan Riley and husband Robert of Bristol, N.H.; son, Michael S. Ormsby and wife Eileen of Bucksport; grandchildren, Jessica Ormsby of Bucksport, and Daniel Ormsby and wife Lisa of Bucksport; great-granddaughter, Kelsie Cirillo of Bucksport; sister, Lillian Glidden and husband Robert of Orrington; several sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Time of gathering 4-8 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 16 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Celebration of life 11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 17 at the Waldoboro United Methodist Church, 95 Friendship St., Waldoboro with Pastor Jennifer Curran officiating.
