Jeanne R. Gumkowski, 58, of Alna and Pemaquid Point, passed away on March 19 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
She was born in Meriden, Conn. on March 30, 1948, a daughter of Alfred and Marguerite (Grusse) Rene.
She graduated from Maloney High School in Meriden, Conn., and attended Southern Connecticut State and graduated from Briarwood College.
On Aug. 9, 1969, she married Fred A. Gumkowski and was employed as a medical assistant in New Haven, Conn. She was later self-employed as an interior decorator while residing in Swarthmore, Penn. They moved to Alna in 2000.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.
Jeanne was devoted to her family and had a passion for the coast of Maine.
She is survived by her husband, Fred A. Gumkowski of Alna; daughters, Jill Vanderport and husband Peter of Hartland, Vt., and Collin Dalton and husband Conal of Springfield, Penn.; sister, Sharon Fontanella and husband Robert of Kensington, Conn.; grandchildren, Jared Vanderport, Abby Vanderport, Maureen Dalton and Katie Dalton; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m., Thurs., March 22 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle with Father Alfred Irving officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Newcastle.
