Jeffrey H. Kellett, 62, passed away peacefully at his home, ‘Windsong Woods,’ in Walpole, on Aug. 17, with his wife by his side. Born in Boston, Mass. on June 15, 1950, he was the son of Dr. Mirle A. Kellett and Virgina T. Kellett.
His childhood was spent in Wellesley, Mass., and Moody Beach. He graduated from Wilbraham Academy in Wilbraham, Mass. in 1969, and then went to Nasson College in Springvale. He later attended the Univ. of Maine at Portland/Gorham, working in the theatre department and doing set designs. He directed several plays for the Children’s Theatre of Maine.
Jeff came to New Harbor in 1974, first working on the dock and then managing the New Harbor Lobster Co-Op. He fished for lobster and scallops out of New Harbor on his wooden boat, The Rose, for 12 years.
He was a woodcutter, artist, and carpenter. He designed and built his own home, as well as other houses, additions and renovations in the midcoast area. Jeff loved his work on the water and in the woods. His joy was his family, his pets, and a good book. He had a lifelong interest in music.
He and his wife, Elizabeth, ran their organic garden and gift shop, Windsong Herbs and Gardens, for over 10 years. Jeff designed and built the shop, which was widely photographed and copied.
Jeff also became a sternman in South Bristol, working finally for 12 years with Arnie Gamage, until ill health forced him to retire in 2010.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Throckmorton Kellett of Walpole. They celebrated their 25th anniversary on Aug. 14. He also leaves his stepchildren, Robert Throckmorton of Damariscotta, and Dr. Heather Throckmorton of Sacramento, Cal.; brother, Dr. Mirle A. Kellett Jr. and wife Wendy Kellett; and niece, Jessica Kellett, all of Yarmouth.
A fishing fleet will gather, and his ashes will be buried at sea, on Sun., Aug. 26. Contact Arnie Gamage at the South Bristol Co-Op for details.
Friends and family will gather later at the Harrington Meeting House on the Harrington Road in Pemaquid from 2-3 p.m. for a celebration of his life. A reception will follow at The Contented Sole Restaurant in New Harbor until 6 p.m.
