Joan F. Lewis, 75, of South Bristol, passed away on Oct. 4 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home, Damariscotta.
The daughter of Irving and Lyndell (Varney) Foster, she was born in Portland, March 17, 1931.
Joan graduated from South Bristol High School in the Class of 1949. She worked for a short time at Pownal State School before marrying and moving to New Jersey. Upon returning to Maine, she spent the majority of her working years as a gourmet food specialist. She worked for many years at Gay’s Gourmet Foods in Damariscotta and later at Weatherbird, also in Damariscotta. For several years she owned and operated the Harbor Market in South Bristol.
She loved attending wine tasting events, was an avid reader and in later years, became passionate about her family genealogy.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Callahan, in 2004.
She is survived by one son, John Beward of Portland; sister, Diana Prentice of Newcastle; grandson, Kenneth Seiders and wife Cheryl of South Bristol; great-grandson, Aiden Seiders of South Bristol; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Service to honor her life 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 7 at the chapel of Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with Rick Newell officiating.
She will be laid to rest at the West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole.
