Jonathan Michael Basner, 33, of Waldoboro, died July 24 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born June 3, 1976 in State College, Penn., a son of Richard and Barbara Sickman Basner. Jonathan grew up in Ivine, Cal. before moving with his family to Voorhees, N.J. where he attended Eastern Regional High School.
He attended Baptist Bible College in Clark Summit, Penn. and graduated from Cedarville University in Ohio with a BA in Religious Education. He received his masters degree from Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, Cal.
He moved back to Cedarville to work as a resident director for two years. He moved to Waldoboro in 2003 to begin working as a youth pastor at the First Baptist Church of Waldoboro. He served the church recently as the associate pastor. He loved reading, watching sports especially Penn State games, the outdoors, camping, and loved his family and church.
He was predeceased by his mother in 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Lisa M. Basner of Waldoboro; daughter, Jillian S. Basner of Waldoboro; son, Josiah J. Basner of Waldoboro; father, Richard Basner of Voorhees, N.J.; brothers, Brian Basner and wife Jennifer of Maple Shade, N.J., and Kevin Basner of Houston, Tex.; grandmother, Dorothy Sickman of Voorhees, N.J.; father- and mother-in-law, Rev. Stephen and Miriam Cook of Claremont, N.H.
Private family burial Wed., July 29 in Waldoboro. Memorial service to celebrate Jonathan’s life 11 a.m., Thurs., July 30 at the First Baptist Church in Waldoboro. Rev. John Vermilion, Rev. Michael Peterson, and Rev. Stephen Cook will officiate.
