Joseph Flax, 88, husband of the late Arlene (Jutton) Flax, passed away on Aug. 18 in Waldoboro.
The son of Julius and Alice (Wishengrad) Flax, he was born May 6, 1919, in Newark, N.J.
Following his public education in Hudson, Mr. Flax entered the U.S. Army, serving honorably from 1940-1945 during WWII. He received the Bronze Star.
For well over 40 years, he was employed as a line foreman for Niagra Mohawk Power Co.
One of his life passions was participating in the Senior Olympics, where he won several medals in both speed skating and running. He received his last medal at the age of 81.
From 1962-2005 he lived in Speculator, N.Y., moving to Maine in 2005 to be near his daughter and son-in-law.
Predeceased by his wife Arlene in 1999, he leaves his daughter Joanne Krawic and husband Edmund of Nobleboro; brother, Jerome Flax of Albany, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Flax will be laid to rest with his wife in Speculator, N.Y.
