Joseph P. Dearborn, 84, of Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of Jan. 19 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. Born in Boston, Mass. on Nov. 9, 1924, he was the son of Dr. Henry F. and Emilie (White) Dearborn.
He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, class of 1947, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry. Upon graduation, he worked for Texaco Oil in South America. He married Jane Ann Nickolls on Nov. 5, 1948. They spent their early years in South America and later moved to Windham, N.H. in 1959. They spent the next 18 years there and moved to Damariscotta upon retirement. They were married for 43 years before she passed on March 30, 1992.
Jerry was a long time agent for John Hancock Insurance Company. He also bred and raced thoroughbred horses. He was a member of the Cabadetis Boat Club of Round Pond. He enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling and sailing.
Family members include daughter, Meredith Dearborn of Falls Church, Va.; sons, Joseph Jr. of Damariscotta, Peter of Raymond, N.H., and Michael of Packwood, Wash.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Miriam Dunn of Concord, N.H.; step-brother, Henry Dearborn of Washington, D.C.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gathering 2-4 p.m., Sat., Jan. 31 at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with a sharing of words at 3 p.m.
