Kathryn Campbell Reed, 50, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away on the morning of Oct. 29 with her loving daughter at her side.
Born on July 1, 1960 in Concord, Mass. to Robert Campbell and Diane (Dorr) Campbell, Kathy attended public schools and graduated from Acton-Boxboro Regional High School in 1978. In 1982 she graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in psychology. Although she grew up in Acton, Mass., Kathy spent many summers with her family on Ocean Point, and settled in Boothbay Harbor permanently in 1988.
Kathy was able to incorporate her love for the ocean into her professions by working as the sales manager for Balmy Days Cruises, and owning and operating the Anchor Watch Bed and Breakfast. Kathy also loved to ski, read, and occasionally indulge in something chocolaty, especially when out with friends. She had several animals throughout her lifetime, and always appreciated their affection and calming nature. There wasn’t an animal in her life that she didn’t have a special place in her heart for. Due to her illness, she had recently spent much of her time researching new treatments and preventive measures for melanoma. Kathy could put a smile on anybody’s face and shared her contagious laughter with everyone she met. She was a devoted mother whose love for her daughter was immeasurable.
Kathy was predeceased by her father, Captain Robert T. Campbell and sister-in-law, Martha R. Campbell.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly L. Reed of Boothbay; mother, Diane Campbell Saunders and husband James Saunders of Boothbay Harbor and Bluffton, S.C.; brother, Captain William R. Campbell and wife Kelly of Boothbay Harbor; nephew, Robert Campbell of Boothbay Harbor; nieces, Rosaline, Grace and Kate Campbell of Boothbay Harbor; and her beloved cat, Kitten.
In lieu of flowers a scholarship will be established with the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund in Kathy’s name, specifically for students planning on studying medicine.
Celebration of Kathy’s life 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 6 at the Congregational Church in Boothbay Harbor.
