Kathryn E. Leen, 66, of Bath, passed away July 2 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends, who loved her very much.
Kathy was born on Oct. 6, 1948 in Bangor, the daughter of Stanley and Barbara Leen. She graduated from Bangor High School and attended Green Mountain College in Vermont and Springfield College in New Hampshire, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Human Services.
Her professional experience included co-coordinator, Child and Family Mediation of Penquis CAP, Bangor; coordinator, VIA – Healthy Communities Coalition, Pittsfield; executive director, Center for Teens, Inc., Damariscotta; and administrative assistant, Outpatient Behavioral Health, Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick.
Kathy loved the outdoors and was probably happiest when she was operating the family sporting camps, Leen’s Lodge on West Grand Lake. However, the time spent with her friends at Sugarloaf, kayaking the byways, or just sitting on the porch listening to the birds were equally special. Her friends shared what a brave woman she was and that they were grateful for her gift of friendship.
Kathy’s biggest gift and greatest happiness, though, was her son, Chris.
Kathy is survived by son, Christopher J. Leen and girlfriend Jenna Kasten; sister, Margaret Holbrook and husband Joe; brother, Stephen, and his children, Steve Jr., Alison, and Nick; and sister, Lynda and husband Eric, and their children, Rick and Scott.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Leen Family Reunion at Grand Lake Stream in August with a burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Bangor.
