Kathryn M. Draper, 88, of South Warren, passed away peacefully July 28 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care surrounded by her loving family. She was born on the family farm in South Warren on Oct. 4, 1922, the daughter of the late Charles and Doris Copeland Maxcy. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Warren High School class of 1941. After high school she went on to participate in a nursing program at Knox County General Hospital.
Through the years she worked at Dennisons Nursing Home in Waldoboro, as a private nurse for Ms. McDougal for 15 years and at both Brackett’s and McDonald’s Drug Stores in Thomaston. It was here that she became a staple of the Thomaston community, building relationships that would last a lifetime.
She raised her family on Willowbrook Farm where her family had lived for four generations before building a home with her husband Everett in 1960.
She enjoyed gardening, and was a member of the South Warren Grange. Every Tuesday night she could be found with her Busy Hands Jr. group. The group began as support for the troops and their families. They continued to meet over the next 50 years.
Loved by her children, nieces, nephews and friends, adored and immortalized by her grandchildren, she is best known for her easy smile and her warm personality. Her values and ideals live in the lives of those who cared so very much for her.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Everett Draper; and siblings, Lloyd, Howard, Edward and Eleanor Maxcy.
Survivors include her daughters Jean Ross and husband Jack of Green Valley, Ariz. and Pat Libby and husband Doug of Warren; son, Steven Draper of Windsor; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
