Kenneth Verne Houghton, 72, of Alna, passed away peacefully May 4 with his loving partner of over 10 years, Arlynne, as well as his son Matthew, by his side at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Ken was born as one of five children on Jan. 29, 1944 in Framingham, Mass. to the late Berhardt and Eunice (Peloquin) Houghton.
He grew up in Cochituate, Mass., proudly graduating from Wayland High School in 1962. He enjoyed playing football and learned much of his athleticism from his older brother Bernie. One notable event was when Ken, as a sophomore, scored for Wayland High, defeating Westboro, in the last period. Later on he focused his athletic abilities into the game of golf.
Ken founded the Seagull Shop Inc. and Restaurant on Pemaquid Point, in Maine during 1977. There he was president and also cooked, ordered supplies and even scooped ice cream until his retirement but he remained as part owner of the establishment until his passing.
Ken had a passion for Western films, hardly passing up the opportunity to watch one with his dearest cat companion, Bobby, on his lap. He also took a great interest in motorcycles and sports cars and could be seen on a beautiful day cruising around with Arlynne in his BMW Z3 with the top down.
Ken became very fond of gardening when he moved to Rt. 218 with Arlynne in Alna. Concentrating and taking much care of their flowers, landscaping and lawn. The garden of love and companionship.
Ken always enjoyed a great meal out, favoring the seafood and steak selections.
Ken was predeceased by his parents and brother, Bernardt Houghton.
Ken is cherished and survived by his soulful partner, Arlynne Ostlund of Alna; her children, Amanda Ostlund, and Holly Ostlund; Ken’s children: sons, Daniel Eugene Houghton, Matthew Kenneth Houghton and wife Katherine, Mark David Houghton, Jonathan Luke Houghton and wife Laura; daughter, Elizabeth Dawn and husband Owen L. Faryna; as well as several grandchildren, all residing in Maine; sister, Jeanne Bancroft of Millis, Mass.; brothers, Ronald Houghton of West Yarmouth, and Richard Houghton of Marlboro, Mass.
