Kenneth Yore, 84, of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Damariscotta, died peacefully at home in Florida on March 29.
He was known by his family as Ken and was born in Lewiston on March 20, 1931 to Edward and Esther (Abbott) Yore.
His family moved to Bath to work at Bath Iron Works building destroyers for the U.S. Navy. He attended Morse High School and worked at American Can Company in Illinois and Bath Iron Works in the accounting department.
Ken also worked as a private chauffeur for Mrs. Oliver Moses at the Iron Works. He chauffeured actor John Wayne when he came to christen a destroyer.
Kenneth and wife Doris lived in Bath most of their married life. In 1993 they became snowbirds, spending seven months in Florida and five months at their cottage on Lake Pemaquid, Damariscotta.
He was a former member of the Polar Masonic Lodge and the West Bath Grange.
Ken is survived by his wife Doris; they were married on Aug. 31, 1958. He is also survived by daughter, Deirdre and husband Kent Jewett; grandchildren, Nicole and Nathaniel Jewett; sisters, June Manning of Coral Gables, Fla., and Muriel Milne of Brunswick; and several cousins.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 p.m., Sat., May 16 with a funeral service at 1 p.m. at David E. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, Bath. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath.
