Korrine “Korby” Clement, 52, of Waldoboro, died Nov. 25 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born Sept. 20, 1958 in Elkton, Md. to Alden Peter Kunsman and Kay Lorene Kunsman. She grew up in North East, Md. where she attended local area schools. She was a talented multi-sports athlete, recognized in 1976 as a High School All American in basketball.
Upon her graduation from North East High School in 1976, Korby enlisted in the U.S. Army’s Ordnance Corps as a maintenance technician, serving overseas in the 2nd Infantry Division, Korea, and later, as a member of the 7th Infantry Division Inspector General’s Inspection Team at Fort Ord, California. In 1983, she became the first female graduate of the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Academy at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and served as a Warrant Officer. She resigned from active duty in 1984 to bear the first of her three daughters.
During the 1980s, she moved to Germany and was employed as a GS-9 maintenance and training specialist by the U.S. Army, Europe. She was a highly valued maintenance consultant by units in VII Corps and the 3rd Infantry Division. She lived in the communities of Ebermannsdorf, Schonlind and Aschaffenburg and traveled extensively throughout Europe. She returned to the United States with her family in 1990, and settled in the Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C. area.
She worked at SYS Technologies until she retired. In 2007, she and her best friend, Linda Gagnon, purchased a home in Waldoboro and opened a new restaurant called, “995 Main.”
She was a member of the Waldoboro Women’s Club and a dedicated Baltimore Orioles fan, loved sports, horses, her business and helping others in the community.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Caitlin Clement of Warwick, R.I., Megan Clement of Warwick, R.I. and Devlin Anne Clement of New Orleans, La.; parents, Alden Peter Kunsman of Elkton, Md. and Kay Lorene Kunsman of Perryville, Md.; sisters, Karen R. Porter of Port Deposit, Md. and Kim M. Wade of Bivalve, Md.; brother, Kip A. Kunsman of Perry Hall, Md.; and best friend, Linda Gagnon of Waldoboro.
A gathering to remember Korby will be held at 995 Main Restaurant, 995 Main St. in Waldoboro will be announced at a later date.
