Laurence Dadmun, 89, of Newcastle, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Nov. 15 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta. Born in East Stoneham, he was the son of Herbert and Kathryn Dadmun.
Laurence was a veteran of WWII, and served as a Private Light tank crewman in Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon and Luzon. He was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Metal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead Victory Metal, Distinguished Unit Badge and the Phil Lib Bronze Service Stars.
Laurence helped start the Stoneham Rescue, and then joined Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service in Damariscotta. He was employed as a rural carrier at the Edgecomb Post Office until he retired. He loved hunting, golfing, and camping and fully enjoyed spoiling his granddaughter.
He was happily married to his second wife Mildred (Delano) for 23 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughter, Susan Dadmun of Newcastle; granddaughter, Kathryne Dadmun of Lorton, Va.; and stepchildren, Henry Shattuck of Massachusetts, William Shattuck of Massachusetts, June Bourque of Maine, Pamela Raymond of South Carolina, and Patricia Maniscalco of New Hampshire.
A remembrance gathering is planned for 4-6 p.m., Fri., Nov. 22 at the American Legion Hall, 527 Main St., Damariscotta. Casual attire please.
