Leland Arthur Gamage, 86, of Unity, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Aug. 21 at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta.
He was born, May 30, 1924 in South Bristol, the son of Arthur and Alice (Rice) Gamage.
Mr. Gamage grew up in South Bristol and at the age of 18 he served honorably with the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war on Sept. 16, 1946 he married the former Madeline Arsenault and they made their home in Connecticut.
He worked at Pratt & Whittney and for Eastern Tool Company in Connecticut until he retired back to Maine, where he lived in Newcastle and Unity. His passion was playing golf until recently and he enjoyed fishing. He will be remembered for his love for his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gamage was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years who died on March 5, 2008.
Mr. Gamage is survived by sons, Ronald L. Gamage and wife Linda of Nobleboro, Alan B. Gamage and wife Sandy of Unity, Brian Gamage of Ovieda, Fla. and David Gamage and wife Dianna of Ellington, Conn.; sister, Phylis Wentworth of McMinnville, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a service to celebrate the life of Mr. Gamage, 10 a.m., Sat., Aug. 28 at the Lincoln County Assembly of God, Business Route One, Damariscotta. Reverend Tom Wagers, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
