Leonard R. Young, 86, of Damariscotta, passed away July 2. He was born on Oct. 2, 1922 in Westfield, N.J., the son of Leonard A. Young and Alice Herder Young.
Mr. Young was a WWII veteran serving in the Marine Corps in the Asiatic Pacific area. His unit participated in the liberation of Mindanao Island in the Philippines under the command of Major General Jens A. Doe of the 41st Division of the Army.
Upon his return home in December of 1945, he married his faithful and loving wife, Catherine Malloy Young.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Maurita Kling of Wiscasset, Mrs. Pamela Cummings-Rice of South Hero, Vt., and Mrs. Claudia J. Young-Palmer of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; sister, Mrs. Doris G. Campbell of Plainfield, N.J.; four granddaughters; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial service 3 p.m., Wed., July 8 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
