Leslie A. Barter, 53, of East Boothbay, died Oct. 25 at her home. Leslie was born Jan. 16, 1963 in Boothbay Harbor to Gareth and Pauline (Strout) Coffin. She grew up in the Boothbay Region and graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1981.
She married Mark Barter in 1982. Leslie worked all of her career in banking and worked for several banks in the Boothbay Region over the years including Canal Bank, Fleet, Gardiner Savings, Bank of Maine, and Camden National Bank. Leslie was well known for her great customer service and her friendly welcome at the bank. She was loved throughout the region.
She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor. She was very active in the church, and taught Sunday school. Leslie had been diagnosed with MS years ago. Leslie and her daughter, Allison Barter Dunbar, participated in MS walks all over the state for many years.
Leslie was a great mom who always enjoyed spending time with her daughter whether it was at church, Girl Scouts, or shopping. Leslie also enjoyed shopping at lawn sales or thrift stores. Leslie enjoyed her family trip to Alaska. She also enjoyed raising her chickens around her home. Leslie will be missed by her family, friends and the community. She was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mark W. Barter of East Boothbay; daughter, Allison Barter Dunbar and husband John of Boothbay Harbor; sisters, Teri Coffin Munn of Hartland, Judy Williams of Boothbay, and Gayle Pinkham of Boothbay; brother, David Coffin of Boothbay; special mother-in-law, Isabelle Lewis of Boothbay Harbor; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation and gathering from 5-7 p.m., Wed., Nov. 2 at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. A service to celebrate Leslie’s life will be held 1 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 3 at the First United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor, 81 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. Revs. Richard Rego, Carol Stevens, and Ami Sawtelle will officiate. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay. A reception will follow at the church.
