Leverett Paul Chase, of Pemaquid Beach, passed away at his home on June 29, surrounded by family. “Paul”, the loving husband of Audrey Jane Hall for 62 years, was born on Feb. 4, 1932 in New Harbor to Leverett E. Chase and Ethel Mae Brackett.
Paul graduated from Bristol High School and began his career by lobstering on his boat the Audrey out of Monhegan Island. He attended school for radio technicians in Boston and worked for Transitron in Boston before starting a 33-year career with the State of Maine Forestry Department. He also served in the Coast Guard Reserves.
Paul loved everything about Maine, especially the blues of the ocean that matched his eyes, and the water where he enjoyed endless hours of boating and scuba diving with his family and friends. His favorite moments were to savor the salt air and views of John’s Bay from his deck at home. He and his wife Audrey fulfilled their dream trip after retirement to sail to the Bahamas and the Caribbean on their boat the Pauly, named after their son.
He is pre-deceased by his adored son, Paul Leverett, and nephew, Alexander C. Lane.
He is survived by his wife Audrey; sons, Michael and Mark, both of Pemaquid; daughter, Linda; son-in-law, Arthur Jenkins; granddaughters, Alexandra and Victoria, all of Greenwich, Conn; sister, Lois M. Lane of Pemaquid Point; nephew, Christopher; and best friend of 75 years, “Mike” Dodge.
His enduring charm and dry humor will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family will hold a graveside service in New Harbor at 11 a.m., Thurs., July 2.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol First Responders, 104 South Side Rd., New Harbor, ME 04554.
