Lilliace A. Galuza, 85, passed away Jan. 6 at Amenity Manor in Topsham, with her family by her side.
She was born in Skowhegan, on May 27, 1921, a daughter of Francis and Lillian (Brown) Ames.
She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford. She was a domestic helper for several years and on August 24, 1940 she married Adam Galuza and they resided in Woolwich.
She was employed as a nurse’s aid at Bath Memorial Hospital in the pediatric ward, and also was employed at Stinson’s Canning Factory in Bath. She was later employed at Health Tex as a seamstress and medical aide and also served as president of the union.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, an auxiliary member of the American Legion in Bath, the West Bath Grange, and the Woolwich Grange.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and singing. She was very active volunteering with several community events, including making sure a school bus would pick up Woolwich children to take them to school.
She was predeceased by her husband, Adam Galuza on July 4, 1999; and sisters, Elizabeth Greene, and Irene “Ida” Smith.
She is survived by one son, Gerald “Jerry’ Francis Galuza and wife Beverly of Woolwich; daughters, Joan Marie Jordan and husband Gerald of Woolwich, Juanita Jean Ponziani and husband Raymond of West Bath, Donna Louise Morris and husband Richard of Westport Island, and Yvonne May Stanton and husband Eugene of Woolwich; sister, Mildred White of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Tues., Jan. 9 at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 19 High St., Bath.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m., Wed., Jan. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Lincoln St., Bath, with Fr. Richard P. Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Woolwich.
Gathering of family and friends will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church parish hall.
