Lloyd Hewett Jr., 86, of Jefferson and former long time resident of Somerville, went to be with his Savior on April 8 at his home surrounded by his devoted family. He was born in Somerville on June 8, 1919, a son of Lloyd F. and Jane Nutting Hewett, and lived there until moving to Jefferson 19 years ago. He attended grade school in Somerville and attended Cony High School, graduating in 1937. Lloyd served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from February 1943 through February 1946. He served in the 466th Anphibus Battalion and received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star. He worked close to 50 years as a contractor/builder, building and remodeling homes in the surrounding area. Lloyd was well known for his work ethic. He was a very honest and hardworking man; giving an honest day’s work along with a quality job. Many of the men who worked for him went on to become carpenters themselves. Lloyd began attending South Somerville Baptist Church from the time he was born and was a member of this church until his passing. He loved and prayed for his church family. He also was a member of the Lions Club, the VFW and the American Legion. He served his community on the school committee and as a selectman when he resided in Somerville. Lloyd was a loving husband and devoted father and Grampa, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his son, Dennie; and his parents, Lloyd F. Hewett Sr., and Jane N. Hewett. Survivors include his precious wife of 63 years, Marge Hewett of Jefferson; daughters, Jean Clark and husband Bill of Windsor, Ann Martin and husband Charles of Jefferson, and Beth Gurney and husband John of Augusta; son, Peter Hewett and wife Diane of Hermon; brother, Don Hewett and wife Shirley of Somerville; grandchildren, Lara Dionne and husband Marty, Carrie Clark, Kristin Turcotte and husband Joe, Kami Martin, Kara Parker and husband Matt, Kasha Martin, Jessi Gurney, Brooks Gurney, and Sarah Hewett; great-grandchildren, Kieran and Keridwen Dionne, Austin, GraceAnn and Jacob Turcotte, Gabriella Parker and another great grandchild on the way; and a large extended family. Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Tues., April 11 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Funeral service 11 a.m., Wed., April 12 at the funeral home with Reverend John Dancer officiating. Interment will be in West Washington Cemetery, Washington, with military honors.
